Productive and lovely baking day today that was restful and necessary. Thankful for the gift of bread to provide nourishment and delight for my family this week. Gluten-free loaf, homemade croutons, and 2 sourdough loaves.

Homemaking is not just about baking bread or doing things in the kitchen. A great homemaker May never bake a loaf of bread in her life, but if her heart is for her family and her home, then she will use her greatest gifts and talents to serve those in her care.

For me, I love using the things my soul delights in to bless my loved ones, and baking is one of those things. No matter what your gift and talent is, “do it all as unto the Lord” (Col. 3:23), and your heart will find the peace it desires ❤️

Nothing quite like the peaceful ambiance of a fire in the fireplace. Thankful for a few bonus days to enjoy its beauty as we endure another cold snap before spring officially decides to settle in. The dogs apparently got the memo, too.

I just love our family dogs. These beagles are siblings and they have brought such fun joy to our lives. The kids adore them and the dogs love the attention and snuggles. Gotta say, I’m pretty sold on beagles as the perfect family dog, shedding aside. ❤️❤️❤️

Bless your children by giving them chores. They may not see it as a blessing, but you must have eyes to see beyond this temporary discomfort.

You are raising adults. You are raising capable people who can handle difficulties and frustrations, think on their feet, and seek to leave a place better than when they found it.

Cast a vision for being a part of a family, participating in its care, rather than purely passively receiving from someone else’s offering. Raise up doers and part-takers, not just takers. When they’re adults, they’ll thank you ❤️

I don’t know about you, but I’m my flesh I am

I don’t know about you, but I’m my flesh I am quite a control freak. I want things done NOW, the kids to behave NOW, for quiet to happen NOW, and for peace to be felt NOW.

But, God in all of His perfect wisdom has given me 7, and soon to be 8, little souls to challenge me in my selfishness and provoke me to awareness that I may grow in His love.

Friends, we cannot do this of our own strength. None of us are patient enough, peaceful ALL of the time, calm in every situation, nor capable of a consistent presence of mind WITHOUT the Holy Spirit in the driver’s seat.

I know the parenting world will tell you otherwise, and then you fall in these “laws of good parenting” and feel like an utter failure.

Take heart, sweet mama. God is able to carry both your failures and your successes as you move through the slow process of sanctification which won’t complete until you reach Heaven.

But, to experience His peace in this Truth you must recognize your need for His strength in your times of struggle. Accept your broken places and hand them over to Him.

When you do, not only will you embrace your broken children for their fallen places, for you will not think yourself superior but of equal fallibility and in need of our Savior, but you will also love others better.

“He who is forgiven much loves much.” - Luke 7:47

Accept your weak places and then hand them over to the transforming power of our Abba. Then, take a breath, slow down, and listen to His wisdom as it guides you in the moment’s needs.

He is faithful.
